Join us weekend 29th to 31st of October, to celelbrate the life and work of our wonderful Dongria. Events will include planting a small memorial wood, (there will be a bigger wood once a suitable site becomes available) an evening of food and entertainment at Hebden Bridge Town Hall, and a Quaker memorial service at the Birchcliffe Centre followed by a bring and share lunch. We have booked the Hebden Hey hostles for people who need accommodation. All the details are in the invite opposite. You can attend all or just one or two of the events but we do need to know numbers so we are asking you to book via the link below

Dongria’s Memorial Service

On Saturday we had a beautiful Quaker Memorial Service for Dongria. As Dongria had wished, there was an unattended cremation followed later by the service. Quakers do not have a hierarchy or ministers. A Quaker Elder holds the space and introduces the meeting. Anyone who feels moved to speak may stand and do so. The act of speaking in the meeting is called: to give ministry. We thank the Quaker Elder, Alex. We are grateful to everyone who chose to give ministry and for their wise, funny, sad, and beautiful words and we are grateful to everyone who stayed silent. It is as valid to stay silent as to speak. Thank you to everyone present. Together we created a powerful and profound memorial for Dongria.
